A Bridal Boutique That Refuses to Be Ordinary

Maidens and Ravens isn’t your typical bridal shop. Elizabeth’s boutique celebrates individuality — gothic themes, mystic imagery, one-of-a-kind dresses, and a sustainable approach where many gowns are recycled and reimagined. She needed a website as distinctive as her business.

The challenge? Create something that captures the magic without losing focus on what matters most: the dresses.

The Challenge

Elizabeth came to me with a clear vision but complex requirements:

Unique Brand Identity

Gothic, mystic, dark — but still bridal. The imagery needed to convey her unique aesthetic without overshadowing the dresses.

One-of-a-Kind Stock

Every dress is unique. No standard e-commerce approach would work — fitting is essential, so no online checkout.

Sustainable Messaging

Many dresses are recycled/reused, but Elizabeth didn't want to become a 'charity shop dumping ground'. The messaging needed careful handling.

Booking Focus

The goal isn't online sales — it's getting brides through the door for appointments. Every page needed to drive bookings.

What I Built

The design phase involved plenty of collaboration. Elizabeth had strong ideas about imagery, and I had to incorporate those while keeping the dresses centre stage. I went through several iterations until we found the perfect balance.

A Menu That Makes an Impression

I opted for something you don’t see on most websites: the main imagery appears in the background of the navigation menu. When the menu opens, a transition animation reveals the striking background image.

It creates a genuine wow factor — and sets the tone for the boutique experience.

WooCommerce Without the Checkout

I used WooCommerce to create a full dress catalogue, but with a twist:

  • No cart or checkout — fitting is essential, so online purchasing isn’t an option
  • Fixed “Book Appointment” button — visible on screen at all times
  • Individual dress enquiries — brides can enquire about specific dresses through product pages
  • Beautiful galleries — every dress showcased with the attention it deserves

The technology serves the business model, not the other way around.

Brand-Led Design

Every element reinforces Elizabeth’s unique positioning:

  • Dark, atmospheric colour palette
  • Mystic and gothic visual touches
  • One-of-a-kind dress photography
  • Copy that celebrates individuality over conformity

The Results

30 Google Reviews

In just three months after launch. Real brides sharing real experiences — the best marketing there is.

1,000+ Monthly Visitors

Growing organic traffic from brides searching for something different from the typical bridal experience.

Appointment Bookings

Brides regularly book saying 'I found you through your website' — the site does the selling before they walk in.

A Site That Stands Out

In a sea of pastel pink bridal websites, Maidens and Ravens is unmistakably different — exactly as Elizabeth wanted.

What the Client Says

Steven has gone over and above to deliver the most amazing website for me and I am absolutely thrilled with it. His patience through my numerous changes and his vision in getting it just right has been fantastic. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a new website and have already done so to colleagues and friends. Thank you Steven for everything!
